In Antalya’s Kemer district, Carretta Caretta babies started to meet the sea after the spawning period in May.

After the spawning period in May of Caretta Carettas, which are among the endangered animals in the world, the offspring started to be seen. The babies of Caretta Caretta, who lay eggs at night in Dakapo Beach in Kemer Moonlight Beach in May, come out of the nest. Kemer Municipality Veterinarians Fevzi Uzun and Seda Aytekin opened the nursery with members of the Ulupınar Environmental Protection Development and Management Cooperative. Authorities removed a live Caretta Caretta from inside the nest.

Cooperative official Bayram Kütle reminded that after Caretta Caretta layed near the sea in May, they carried their eggs further to the sea, and said that they counted the Caretta Carettas hatched after 101 eggs in total. Explaining that 74 babies reached the sea, Kütle said, “I saw the Caretta Caretta laying eggs for the first time at this beach. According to scientists, we think that after 25 years, when we reach adulthood, they will come here to spawn again.”

Citizens and tourists in the area watched the arrival of the Caretta Caretta, which came out alive from the nest, to the sea with interest. Some tourists viewed the baby Caretta Caretta on their cell phones.
