Three hedgehogs, which were found in the garbage and brought to the animal nursery in Kemer district of Antalya, were adopted by the street cat named ‘Nazlı’. The cat, which does not mind the sinking of the thorns of the hedgehog kittens, ensured that the kittens that it breastfed cling to life.
On May 10, 3 hedgehogs whose eyes were not opened were found in a garbage container in Çamyuva District of Kemer. Hedgehog puppies brought to Kemer Municipality Stray Animals Temporary Care Center were taken under protection. Mehbare Seda Aytekin, the veterinarian in charge of the nursing home, tried to make stray cats in the center and in the breeding period a milk mother to hedgehog kittens.
‘NURSED DESPITE THE PAIN’
While the cats that Aytekin tried one by one rejected the kittens, the cat named ‘Nazlı’ accepted the kittens. The mother cat, who previously left her own kittens, breastfed the baby hedgehogs, despite being exposed to pain due to their thorny structure, and enabled them to cling to life.
‘WE ARE VERY LUCKY’
Mehbare Seda Aytekin, stating that the citizen brought the hedgehog kittens found in the litter to the center, “Fortunately, we met these puppies during the season when our milk mothers were many. Suckling a hedgehog. As you know, cats want to lick their kittens. Many of them could not adapt because their thorns were sunk. But the last time our ‘Nazlı’ daughter adopted them. She started to breastfeed these puppies very well.

Saying that Nazlı has her own offspring, Mehbare Seda Aytekin said, “We continue to host our cats in our backyard, whose breastfeeding period is over. We release our cats after neutering operations.
